80% Grenache with 20% Syrah, this wine is vinified and aged in concrete vats and is unfined and unfiltered. It’s deep but lively with notes of black olive, Provençal herbs, tobacco, pepper, and made from grapes that come from thirty- to fifty-year-old vines.
It comes from a terroir that’s principally made up of sandy loam, with soft limestone and some small areas with red clay. It represents 80% of their production and is their flagship bottling.
Matt and Amy’s wines are rich and concentrated, with loads of personality and southern Rhône character. They, of course, handpick their grapes, with family and friends, then transport them in small cases to the winery. The grapes are de-stemmed and then fermented with the naturally occurring yeasts; the only additive is a small amount of sulfur dioxide.
Skin contact lasts from two to four weeks depending on the characteristics of the vintage. The wines are then aged in concrete tanks from 12-24 months, again depending on the different aspects of the vintage.
