This is an easy-going take on Pinot Noir whose finish and character in the palate recalls the best of some lighter Loire Cab Francs, meanwhile the nose is much more brooding and full, reminiscent of Red Burgundy which is to say this is 100% Auvergnois Pinot, and delicious. From Vincent Marie of Domaine No Control working around the village of Volvic in the Auvergne.
Vinification: 100% Pinot Noir hand-harvested from 15 and 40 year-old south-east facing vines grown in granitic sand and basalt at ~1500 feet. The grapes undergo whole-bunch spontaneous fermentation (ambient yeasts; no temp. control) in fiberglass vat before some trampling to make space in the vat at which point whole bunches are macerated in the juice (akin to Daniel Sage's Flotation Method). Devatting, pressing, and blending of free-run and pressed juice. ~15 month élevage in Burgundian barriques before being bottled unfined, unfiltered, no additional SO2.
