This is a distinctly mediterranean co-ferment from Jean-François Nicq of Les Foulards Rouge who works nine hectares of vines overlooking the seaside village of Coullioure in southern France's Roussillon.
Tasting Notes: Complexity galore -- despite the co-fermentation and the youth, Frida carries red-fruit density and a kind of savory concentration in the palate you'd be hard-pressed to find in a wine with the freshness of florality and sunny seaside aromatics displayed in its bouquet. What a pliant delight.
Vinification: A blend of Carignan, Grenache Gris, Grenache Blanc, Grenache Noir hand-harvested from centenary vines grown in the deep sandy soils of 3 different co-planted parcels. The grapes are chilled, destemmed, and co-macerate in open-top fermenters before free-run and pressed juice are blended and transferred to 500L used barrels where a short élevage takes place over the course of 6-8months. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, with no additional SO2.
