This month we’re featuring truly unusual eye-opening wines from Jean-Pierre Rietsch (Domaine Rietsch and Julien Albertus (Kumpf & Meyer). So open your mind, and discover a world of magic.
Jean-Pierre Rietsch, with his sister, and their spouses, run their seven-generation winery in Mittelbergheim. Jean-Pierre’s first vintage was 1987. Kumpf et Meyer was forged by joining together two families, the Kumpfs and the Meyers, whose lands have been used to grow vines since the 17th century and is now operated by Julien Albertus.
From Rietsch: a very funky Cremant, an orange Gewurztraminer called Demoiselle (a hit at Brooklyn RAW last year), and a Pinot Noir .
From Kumpf et Meyer: a hazy pet-nat, Restons Nature, a naturally sparkling wine made from Pinot Gris and Pinot Auxerrois.
