Axel makes this flavorful red mostly from low-yielding 90-year-old vines of Carignan, and a dashe of Grenache this year, grown on granitic quartz. He’s an excellent example of the sort of winemaker we love to represent. Uncompromising, his remote vineyards surrounded by forests are the polar opposite of a monoculture. And he make wines with nothing added and nothing taken away.
