This is a surprisingly supple (though make no mistake - crisp and refreshing as they come) take on Gruner from Christina Netzl of "Christina" who tends 28 hectares of vines in Carnuntum of Neiderösterreich (Lower Austria) between Lake Neusiedl and the Danube river, where Austria shares a border with Slovakia.
Tasting Notes: Crisp, clean and easy -- more lemon than lemon-curd, gruner with a slightly salty kick and a wine that is joyously supple and structure-less (i.e. juicy!!). A perfect summer white if there ever was one.
Vinification: 100% Gruner grown in red gravel and loess soils in Carnuntum of Austria's Neiderösterreich, hand-harvested and whole-bunch direct-pressed. Spontaneous fermentation takes place (ambient yeasts; no temp. control) in stainless steel. It is a long, slow fermentation due to the cold winter temperatures. Once-racked (to get rid of gross and fine lees), the wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered with a minimal addition of SO2.
