Amaro! Rare, second release of barrel-aged reserve, mag+-only edition of Marseille given a bit of a solera treatment. 32%ABV From the producers, Daniel & Aaron:
Years ago, we began collecting and distilling the spent herbs from batches of MARSEILLE to see what the resulting expression would taste like. The distillate proved complex and compelling. We decided to use this distilate as the base to make RESERVE: adding the same botanical recipe as our Marseille Amaro to the distillate and then aging it.
Marseille amaro is made up of 36 different botanicals — roots, tree barks, leaves, and seeds — and sweetened with three types of raw honey from Tremblay Apiaries in Ithaca, NY. Each batch takes about three months from start to finish. Once complete, RESERVE was aged in a mixture of oak barrels, glass demijohns and stainless steel tanks for an average age of three years. After blending the different barrels and tanks, Reserve II, the second vintage or Reserve, was bottled in 168 large format bottles.
With notes of rhubarb root, lemongrass, chamomile, caramel and eucalyptus, RESERVE adds a layer of depth, complexity and a further integration of Marseille that is both delightful and delicious. Enjoy it neat after a meal or with a good book.
