This is a very bright, raspberry-hued red. Acid-high with sighing, wave-like tannin, truly a central Italian gem from Gianmarco Antonuzzi and Clémentine Bouveron of Le Coste. They tend ~14 hectares of vines (a wide mix of old and young vines) at high elevations in the north of Italy’s Lazio region, around Lago di Bolsena in the town of Gradoli (Gianmarco’s childhood home).
Vinification: A blend dominated by Sangiovese with small amounts of Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Canaiolo, and Vaiano. The grapes are hand-harvested from three different vineyard sites with a large age-range (anywhere from 5-50+ year-old vines), elevation and soil makeup (though still drawn primarily from iron-rich volcanic soil). Once harvested, the grapes are destemmed before a 10-day maceration. Aged one year in old chestnut casks. Bottled unfined, unfiltered with no additional SO2. 13.5%ABV
