The Details
This is a saignée rosé blend from biodynamic-certified Weingut Beurer whose estate covers 13 hectares of vines around the town of Kernen in the Rems Valley of southern Germany's Würtemmberg region.
Tasting Notes: The German rosé for pretty much every occasion. Pure, energetic, with a tavel-esque mouthfeel though it is a bit more vibrant. Lovely and spry summer rosé that can hold up to most summer dinner fare as well.
Vinification: A blend of Trollinger, Portugeiser, Spätburgunder & Zweigelt from biodynamic vineyards in the Württemberg region. The grapes are hand-harvested from a range of young and old vines grown in Limestone, Sandstone, and Keuper soils. Spontaneous fermentation is kickstarted with only the help of native yeasts and as is typical of the saignée method, a portion of the fermenting juice is bled off during a relatively short maceration. Unfined, unfiltered with no additional SO2.
Producer Spotlight
As our importer friend Stephen of Vom Boden loves to note, Jochen Beurer is an ex-BMX champion, so his spirit for danger and energy is always present in his wines, even if they are some of the most precise and beautifully made wines in all of Germany.
