The Details
This is a perfumed and balanced white wine from Angiolino Maule who works 9 hectares of vines in La Biancara, Gambellara in the Veneto region of northern Italy.
Tasting Notes: The nose is intense kumquat and yellow peach, with flinty mineral notes. On the palate it is fresh and balanced, with supple citrus and a long mineral finish.
Vinification: Sassaia is produced with Garganega (85%) and Trebbiano (15%), cultivated in vineyards among the Sorio Hills not far from the winery. The soil here is volcanic in origin and, thus, mineral-rich. Fermentation is spontaneous, and it takes place in 30hl oak barrels, without temperature control. A short maceration occurs, lending a squeeze of tannin in addition to the wine's golden hue. Bottled without fining or filtration.
