The Details
In a valley at turns labeled enchanted, hidden, and lost-in-time, you can find the benefits of a rugged, difficultly-traversed terrain: wild beauty. This is the Val Trebbia, so-named for the eponymous River Trebbia, the valley touches four provinces of northwestern Italy, stretched from the Ligurian coastline upland into the vertiginous, forested slopes of the Ligurian Apennines: Piedmont, Liguria, Lombardy, & Emilia-Romagna come together along the snaking borderlands of the Val Trebbia. On the Emilia-Romagnan end of the valley (the northeast end of it, more specifically there on its left bank) you can find the village of Travo, a quaint hilltop hamlet where, for over two decades, Alberto Anguissola has been farming chemical-free vines he himself planted in 1998. The wines always see maceration (red/white grapes, no matter) and there is often a play with co-fermentation in addition to vintage-blending. The wines are pure, whimsical-yet-deep, much the way this region reaches from the sea to green-capped mountaintops.
Emilia Romagna, Italy. A deeply refreshing blend of aromatic varietals, including Malvasia, Marsanne, Ortrugo & Moscato Bianco, with a few direct pressed red varietals as well. Fermented with the skins in stainless steel with no SO2. A shop favorite orange that is exclusive to our Wine Share this vintage. Orange peels and herbal aromatics, overripe apricot and bright citric acidity.
