This is an extraordinarily fresh and spicy red from Clos des Mourres (Ingrid & Jean-Philippe Bouchet) who work five hectares of vines in the foothills of Vaucluse in southern France.
Tasting Notes: A pure glou glou Syrah! Extraordinarily fresh and spicy juice from Vaucluse, at a price that makes it pretty much ideal for every occasion.
Vinification: 100% Syrah from 35 year-old vines, hand-harvested. The grapes are then 50% destemmed while 50% undergo whole-cluster fermentation. The fermentation and maceration are both very short. Unfined, unfiltered, minimal-no SO2.
Jean Philippe Bouchet created le Clos des Mourres in 2009, when after a first non-wine career he ditched everything to buy land on the edge of Cairanne. Three years later, Ingrid, his wife, joined him and they began to expand their vine holdings, making the immediate choice to grow organically, with respect for nature, and without fear of rolling their sleeves up to get a little dirty. Similarly, the goal from the outset was to vinify the wines without artifice and without sulfur, for wines as pure and digestable as possible.
