The Details
This is a rare smoky and light rosé from Brianne Day of Day Wines who works in the Eola-Amity Hills of Oregon's Willamette Valley.
Tasting Notes: Tart black cherries meet slight earth and smoke on the nose. The wine is crisp from a lean backbone of acidity, but it is not the short-finish quaffer you may expect from its salmon hue in the glass. A long finish carried by citric zest - this is a totally unique blended rosé with both red and white-wine grapes from Oregon.
Vinification: 75% Syrah, 25% Viognier. The grapes are hand-harvested and directly pressed. The juices spontaneously ferment separately in neutral French oak barrels using only native yeasts. After 8 months in barrel, the juices have gone through full malolactic fermentation at which point they are bottled. Unfined, unfiltered, with no additional SO2. 12.75% ABV
