The Details
100% Gamay from 20-30 year-old vines organically cultivated in clayey soils in Morgon. Grapes are hand-harvested, and semi-carbonically macerate in concrete tank with 60% of the grapes being destemmed. Spontaneous fermentation and maturation in concrete tank. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, minimal (<25ppm) added SO2.
From the importer, Louis Dressner:
This wine is called 'The Dawn of Javernières because the vines are planted in a direct continuation to the sector of Javernières, widely recognized as one of the Morgon Cru's best. The terroirs are identical but this parcel of ~1 hectare lies JUST PAST the border of the cru appellation. The Desvignes therefore have to use the lower Beaujolais designation (and price!) for this release.
