The Details
A vermouth of 100% Seyval Blanc from Seneca Lake, NY. Macerated with botanicals like wormwood, chamomile, gentian, & orange peel.
From the producers:
"L'Amer, French for bitter, came together like a game of hopscotch. Ideas slowly taking shape, evolving through tasting and dialogue, eventually finding their path. It began with a wonderful vineyard on the western slopes of Seneca Lake, an ideal site that was planted to Seyval Blanc - a hybrid of French origins - and has been farmed with a level of care and attention that is rarely afforded. We picked the vineyard in late September, and while the majority of the fruit pressed was destined to Forthave's Yellow génépi, we kept the remainder of the fruit on the skins, macerating for around ten days. It was pressed and allowed to complete its fermentation in a stainless tank.
Meanwhile, we decided to soak the skins from the directly-pressed fruit with water, making a piquette - taking advantage of any remaining sugar in the pressings. Once fermentation was complete, we distilled the piquette, yielding a sort of eau de vie which we infused with a slew of botanicals, including wormwood, chamomile, gentian, and orange peel. Once infused, blended and fortified we sweetened L'Amer with grape must, yielding a delicate and polished balance."
