The Details
This is a blend of skin-contact Pinot Gris and rosé of Pinot Noir from Amy and Ollie Hopkinson-Styles who work in the Hawkes Bay region of New Zealand.
Tasting: The wine exhibits the unique granular texture of the region’s gravel soils, and a ripeness that pleasantly elevated the tropicality of the Pinot Gris with the tart cherry of the Pinot Noir. This is a beach and pizza wine if there ever was one (we first tasted it on one with Amy and Ollie themselves) and a really special taste of what Kiwis can do.
Vinification: A blend like you've never had - macerated (i.e. "orange") Pinot Gris expression blended with a rosé expression of Pinot Noir from their Maraekakaho Hawkes Bay vineyard. After a very short maturation, the wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered, with no additional SO2.
Producer Spotlight
Don’t sleep on the new wave of New Zealand natural wine! Amy and Ollie Hopkinson-Styles are a Hawkes Bay based couple with over a decade of wine experience, including many years working with Spanish and Italian Natty wine legends. Now the couple are making some of the REALEST natural wine in the country, working only with organic fruit - a rarity in Hawkes Bay - and zero additions.
