The Details
Between the right bank of the Rhône and the Grand Colombier Mountain peak you can find La Ferme de Jeanne, a new endeavor of the eminently talented Nadège Allouch. As head vigneronne, she was hired by Regis and Lynn Bernard, a couple who had retired to the countryside and purchased the 9 hectares of organic vines associated with the property now known as La Ferme de Jeanne, having been previously run by the Balsollier family who gained a reputation in the '90s in this area for delicious, inexpensive mountain wines. There is a parallel history to the modern moment of the domaine -- seeking that same kind of lightness and purity, the wines Allouch helps create from this fruit that is now biodynamically farmed are similarly affordable and approachable, cored with an acid-bright mineral lift & blanketed by luxuriant deep fruit that seems to only have been capable of coming from Bugey, between and betwixt as it is of mountains and a lush valley floor.
Bugey, France. 100% Gamay from biodynamic vines rooted in clay-limestone soils. Hand-harvested and fermented whole cluster in fiberglass, then pressed and racked into fiberglass for aging. Bottled unfined, unfiltered with a small dose of SO2.
