Le Débit d'Ivresse (Luc Devot), "Amb Amics" 2020

Luc Devot was not originally a winemaker. Following careers as a chef, a fisherman, and a music-festival organizer, Luc decided only in 2017 to dive fully into the wine world after years of lending a hand to loads of these vignerons who were, for all intents and purposes, his neighbors in the Roussillon. Working at first without any of the necessary tools or outfittings to craft wines, he leaned on his friends who leaned back; the spirit of collectivism & mutuality runs deeply in this community of wine-farmers. Take, for instance, his cuvée “Amb Amics,” which translates to English from the local Catalan dialect as “With My Friends.” In this way, the wines Luc Devot crafts are his own of course, but they are also odes to this specific Roussillon tradition as well as to his fellow natural winemakers – his friends, to de-euphemize. Now several vintages in and tending to 4.5 hectares of vines, vinifying & raising the wines in an old co-op building in Estagel, Luc has joined the tradition of low-intervention winegrowers that long ago opened his eyes to the beauty of this end of the viticultural spectrum, and that tradition that has now enjoined him. 

Syrah & Grenache Noir, fermented in whole clusters in stainless steel tank with wild yeasts. Unfined, unfiltered, no SO2. An aromatic light red bursting with fruit and acidity. Serve chilled with sausages and the first of the season's root veggies.
