Nada, "Revolucion Rouge" 2021

In the vaunted village of Natural Wine Lore - the Roussillon's Calce, wonderfully described by the importer Super Glou as "a diorama of a place: a village so quiet you can hear the wind bouncing off creaky wooden windowsills. Yet it is also of natural winemaking lore. Within this sleepy still-life lies a vibrant culture of organic viticulture and native yeasts" -- you can find a doubly named producer, the two-headed renegade known as VANDAL WINE // NADA run by the odd coupling of Raphael Baissas de Chastenet & Oscar Mancillas. One a native of Calce, the other a peripatetic winemaker from Mexico, met at a favored haunt in Perpignan, the bar "Native." This was only a matter of a few years ago, and yet, their idea to make wine together -- hatched, of course, over drinks at "Native" -- has proven to be a stellar one secreted in the twilight. Their wines have quickly gained notoriety in the Natural Wine scene and yet present with a something a tiny bit more 'suave' than what their name or that moniker 'natural wine darling,' might suggest. There is an emphasis on extended élevage in foudres, when available, and in this way the wines are set apart in their combination of freshness & palatal burnish. In any case, they biodynamically farm 7 hectares of vines planted to Grenaches Noir & Blanc, Carignan, Syrah, & Macabeu between the Corbieres & the Pyrenées, pursuing each year how much of something they can make of NADA.

A blend of Carignan, Grenache, Syrah from Calce in the Roussillon. After a very light maceration, the presses are blended and fermented with wild yeasts. Unfined, unfiltered with no added SO2.
