The Details
This is a special, magnum-only cuvée near and dear to Vincent Marie's heart -- a very unique wine of inimitable ease and energy, an ode to the lost Auvergnois Syrahs.
Vinification: La Coulée (tr.: 'flow') is a blend of Syrah and Gamay hand-harvested from both 10- and 80- year-old, east-facing vines grown in green clay and basalt soils at 1140 feet elevation. The grapes are whole-bunch spontaneously fermented (ambient yeasts; no temp. control) in fiber vats with daily punch-downs for 15 days. Devatting, pressing, and assemblage of free-run and press-juice is next before being an 18-month élevage in 600L barrels. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, no additional SO2.
