The Details
This is an old-vine selection of Sangiovese that shows limited rusticity and sings over and above itself with beautiful light red-fruit and minerality finished by very soft tannins from Podere Casaccia who work in central Tuscany.
Vinification: 100% Sangiovese hand-harvested from old-vine clones replanted in new vineyards with clay/loam/sand soils at ~500 feet elevation. The grapes macerate for 48 hours and undergo spontaneous fermentation (ambient yeasts; no temp control). Minimal battonage sur lie in steel vats before a short élevage in old oak barrel. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, no additional SO2.
