Ra‚àö√òmones, "Orange" 2020

Raïmones is a very exciting, completely new venture (founded in 2021!) from the new generation of three winemaking families who work out of Les Gunyoles, a town in Catalonia’s Penedès just southwest of Barcelona. The triumvirate at the helm of Raimones consists of friends Montse Carbó, Jordi Jané, and Marti Sadurní. The vines they work with make up a 10 hectare plot where the plants are all dry-farmed and consistent with typical varieties of the region with one key exception: a rare grape called Marina. To be so young and carry forward such enthusiasm and endeavor is one thing; to mix in a conceptual backbone and cast it as the mission of the project is another. Currently, there are only around 10 hectares of Marina in existence. With a portion of that infinitesimal global planting in their own vineyard, Raïmones have made it their mission to bring this grape back from the brink of extinction and to raise it into some of its best and most focused expressions, ever. A project to watch! Very promising.

This is a Catalonian blend of Marina, a lost Spanish varietal revived by the winemakers, Muscat, and Xarel-lo. The wine ferments with wild yeast in stainless steel tank and spends a few weeks on the skins. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, with no SO2.
