This is a remarkable co-fermentation that offers us a portrait of Piedmont as seen through Mendocino-tinted sunglasses from Evan Lewandowski of Ruth Lewandowski wines working out of Healdsburg.
Vinification: A blend of Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo, and the white-wine grape Arneis (making up ~50% of the wine) hand-harvested from 17 year-old vines grown in primarily sandstone soils. The grapes undergo a spontaneous co-fermentation (ambient yeasts; no temp. control) coinciding with 10 day carbonic maceration in polyethylene (flex-tank) before a gentle basket press. The wine undergoes a short élevage also in polyethylene before being bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with no additional SO2.
