The Details
From the Lot department in Montcuq, just outside Cahors in Southwest France, this is an old-school, old-vine blend of 40% Malbec, 30% Syrah, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot. Vines are organically cultivated on marly soils on top of limestone bedrock. Grapes are hand-harvested and mostly destemmed but not crushed in order to maintain the berries' integrity. Spontaneous fermentation in small concrete tanks for 9-21 days depending on the parcel, prior to pressing. Aging for 12 months in small concrete vats and sandstone jars. Unfined, unfiltered, no additional SO2.
