The Details
100% Malbo Gentile from organically cultivated 25 year-old vines with an eastern exposure at the farm. Grapes are hand-harvested at an early stage in the ripening process in order to retain the aromatic potential of Malbo Gentile. 15-day maceration is followed by 1 year in acacia barrel. Spontaneously fermented, the wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered, no additional SO2.
The wine is called April Frost because of a tragic frost that struck the Malbo Gentile grapes in April of 2017, the first year this cuvée was made. The only grapes able to be harvested were those not at peak ripeness, thereby 'designing' the strategy for making this wine in years to come, as the resulting original wine in 2017 had a surprising edge & aromatic angularity to it that could not have been discovered if not for the frost.
