The Details
50/50 Pinot Noir & Gamay from 25-30 year-old vines planted in the flint/clay/limestone soils of Cheverny. Grapes are hand-harvested, and whole-cluster semi-carbonically, spontaneously ferment in vat. Pressed and aged in demi-muids for at least 6 months prior to bottling unfined, unfiltered, no-to-minimal (vintage dependent; never above 10ppm) added SO2.
Named for the site (which translates to 'rusty' for the red tinge of the clay soils), Rouillon is a single 1.9 hectare estate plot of 25 year-old Gamay & Pinot Noir vines.
