These wines are from Jean-Philippe Padié -- a vigneron originally from Burgundy who, around Y2K, wanted to return to the place of his family's deeper history in the Southwest of France. Working in the wine-crazy town of Calce -- with its famous natural wine names like Gauby and Matassa and its fascinating striated granitic & marl bedrock -- these are elegant and pure as can be.
Vinification deets: 50% Carignan from clay/limestone/chalky marl & 50% Grenache Noir from clay/limestone/schist/chalky marl. Hand-harvested, the grapes are fermented in concrete tank before aging in neutral oak. Unfined, unfiltered, no additional SO2. 13.% ABV
