These wines are from Jean-Philippe Padié -- a vigneron originally from Burgundy who, around Y2K, wanted to return to the place of his family's deeper history in the Southwest of France. Working in the wine-crazy town of Calce -- with its famous natural wine names like Gauby and Matassa and its fascinating striated granitic & marl bedrock -- these are elegant and pure as can be.
Vinification: 100% Carignan hand-harvested from a single parcel of 40-50 year-old vines planted in primarily granitic soils. The grapes undergo semi-carbonic maceration (50% carbo 50% destemmed and directly pressed). The wine is raised in neutral oak through the winter before being blended in the spring. Unfined, unfiltered, no additional SO2. 13.5% ABV
