A pure, resplendent gem from Eric Pfifferling of Domaine L'Anglore who tends 7 hectares of vines in Tavel, his hometown on the western side of the River Rhône where the valley begins to horseshoe just north of Avignon. This is a historic winegrowing region, one where all wines made in the AOC must be heftier rosés of at least 11% ABV. Historically said to have been a favorite of figures as disparate as Louis XIV (aka the Sun King) and Ernest Hemingway.
Vinification: A blend of Grenache, Clairette Blanc + Rose, Cinsault, Carignan, Mourvédre, and Bourbolenc, the vines range in age from 20-70 years and a predominant soil type here is Lauze - a kind of flaky-rock limestone that is well-equipped for drainage. Grapes are hand-harvested in the vineyard and undergo spontaneous fermentation kickstarted by native yeasts in a large vat. The wine undergoes full malolactic fermentation and ages in a combination of concrete and oak vats and used oak casks for nine months. Unfined, unfiltered, no additional SO2.
