Crazy By Nature is James' electic marriage of Malbec, Syrah and Viognier, three special grape varities that grow well in Gisborne's warmer climate. The wine sees some barrel aging to round out the Malbec's sharper edges, while the Viognier acts as an ode to the coplanting of Viognier and Syrah in Cote-Rotie. The wine is smoky yet thirst quenching, a winter warmer with a heart of red plum and balsamic vinegar. Small SO2 only at bottling.
The Producer: Milton Vineyards
The Millton Vineyard consists of three distinct vineyards in Manutuke: Opou, Te Arai, and the Clos de Ste. Anne. The appellation's unique character is attributed to its close proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the presence of geologically youthful sedimentary soils. The cooling sea breezes contribute to a friendly and temperate climate, particularly during the hot summer months. All vineyards practice traditional viticulture methods and are dry-farmed, without the use of insecticides, herbicides, systemic fungicides, or soluble fertilizers.
