The Details
A total field blend of native Sardinian varieties. Grapes are organically cultivated on 30-70 year-old vines planted to sandy clay & schistous soils. Grapes are hand-harvested, and spontaneously ferment in open-top wooden vat prior to racking to neutral barrel for 1-2 years aging. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, no additional SO2.
The importer and Gianfranco Manca on the wine's name:
U.V.A stands for 'United Vineyards of Angiona'. An angiona is a local word for a widespread agricultural region. The wine is made from many tiny, spread out plots It has been made twice, the last time being the 2016 vintage.
"It's a simulation, nomad vines being united. I don't really care about being considered a Sardinian winemaker. Or even about Sardinian terroir. I am a man. I want to unite my vineyards. I recently bought these vineyards. I don't trust them yet, I'm not close to them yet. So I need to unite them."
