The Details
Rachel Signer is a wine writer, publisher of the super-popular natural wine magazine Pipette, & winegrower working in the Adelaide Hills in the tight-knit community of likeminded farmers/neighbors who have been charting the course for the future of Aussie wine for some time now; principally among them has been her husband Anton Von Klopper of Lucy Margaux Wines, and now a few vintages into her own imprint, Persephone is proving to be another one of those bright lights crafting unadorned odes to the grapes that first captured her imagination long before hitting the vines herself. Gorgeous Sangiovese/Gamay/Pinot Noir and the like are expressed with a sun-kissed clarity and spice; these are wines you could rightfully call lyrical. One-of-a-kind, hyper-limited treats to round out our Aussie Explosion this week.
100% Sangiovese. Grapes hand-harvested and fermented for four days on the skins, with foot stomping in open-top puncheon. Unfined, unfiltered, no SO2.
