This is a bold and brilliant blend from Nic Coturri who works three hectares of vines in the Sonoma Valley.
Tasting Notes: Chalky tannins with dark-fruit and a bit of heat - this is northern California's viticultural history in a bottle. It also happens to be delicious. Medium-bodied with some oomph in the palate. Blackberry cassis and a touch of black licorice on the finish.
Vinification: 2018 Zin Contact! is a single vineyard project focusing on grapes from the Testa Family Vineyard in Calpella, Mendocino County. Certain blocks of this historic vineyard go back 100 years. The Field Blend is comprised of Zinfandel, Carignan, Barbera and Petit Sirah. A classic northern California blend. Bunches are destemmed into open top fermenters and see manual punchdowns for two weeks then gently pressed into neutral french oak barrels. Full production is about 20 barrels. No sulfites, fining or filtration.
Producer Spotlight
"The goal of Sonoma Mtn Winery has always been to carry on the torch of an over 40 year wine making tradition started by the Coturri family in Glen Ellen. The philosophy is simple: farming first and just grapes. The only additions done in the vineyard are organic compost, light sulfuring (as needed), no chemicals or pesticides and all sustainable organic practices. The wines have no additions, fining, filtering or sulfites added. These are true classic terroir driven wines from California. Farming First - Just Grapes."
