This is a pitch-perfect white Banyuls blend that meets the various peaks and valleys of the place it is from. As aromatic as Alsatian muscat, grenache gris imparts a sunny aspect to the rich, bodily heft of grenache blanc. From Laurence Manya-Krief of Domaine Yoyo who tends four hectares of centenary vines in the Roussillon’s Banyuls.
Vinification: This is a blend of 75% Grenache Gris/Blanc and 25% Carignan Gris/Blanc, hand-harvested from 85 year-old vines and 4 year-old vines, respectively. Grown in black schist soils from the highest altitude vines in the Banyuls. The grapes are directly-pressed and spontaneous fermentation is kick-started with only the help of native yeasts in stainless steel tank before 6-month aging in old barrels before being bottled unfined, unfiltered, with no additional SO2.
