About the wine

The intro to Jonas Seckinger's profile on his importer Portovino begins, "Seckinger’s wines have some producers in southern Pfalz scratching their heads...here’s a biodynamic Pfalz producer taking cues from the natural Chablis and Jura ouillé or topped-up contingent, as it digs into the terroir of their historic vineyards of mostly red sandstone (buntsandstein). Aber hallo! Seckinger’s making some outstandingly rakish Riesling – bone dry, hazy and savoury!" A new producer for us, Seckinger has indeed been a bit of a revelation. The wines are outstandingly elegant and seem to have come out of nowhere and in winemaking terms from off-the proverbially beaten path. Still young - mid-late twenties - Jonas Seckinger made his first wine at the ripe of age of 17, experimenting with a basically out-of-use wooden press in his parents' garage. Precocious is a bit of an understatement. For the past decade and change, the Seckinger family -- Jonas in tandem with his brothers Lukas and Philipp who are the primary heads of operation in the vines while Jonas is the cellar lead -- have biodynamically cultivated around 20HA of vines of medium-old age in the Southern Pfalz around their ridiculously charming home village of Deidesheim. There is something special in these bottles, and we couldn't be happier to share them with you.

Pfalz, Germany. 100% Riesling from vines rooted in loam, sandstone and limestone. After a day of maceration on the skins, the wine ferments in stainless and neutral oak. Vinified bone dry and bottled unfined, unfiltered with a touch of SO2. 

The Producer: Seckinger

Meet Jonas, Lukas, and Philipp Seckinger. In the picturesque Palatinate region, we tend to their Mittelhaardt vineyard, nestled among world-famous locations. These spots on the Mittelhaardt and the neighboring South Palatinate serve as the cornerstone of our winemaking endeavors. Their annual mission? To bottle the essence of this terroir, preserving its authenticity—a wine that truly reflects the characteristics of the vintage. Cultivating in the Palatinate's richly steeped traditional locations fills them with both luck and pride. For them, it's second nature: spontaneous fermentation, wooden casks, and a no-fuss approach without fining agents. With zero external meddling and ample time in the barrel, our wines emerge naturally stable and utterly distinctive.
